Creating value for Business and Community.

Prof. Hevina S. Dashwood

Hevina S. Dashwood is a Professor of Political Science at Brock University, Canada. Dashwood’s research is focused on private global governance, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and global norms dissemination, as reflected in her highly regarded book The Rise of Global Corporate Social Responsibility: Mining and the Spread of Global Norms (Cambridge University Press, 2012). She also has numerous book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals related to CSR and mining, including the Canadian Journal of Political Science, Canadian Journal of Development Studies, Business and Society Review, and Business and Society. In addition, she has published widely on CSR adoption on the part of global mining companies, including their participation in multi-stakeholder partnerships and global governance initiatives.

Dashwood’s current research examines the local adoption of global standards designed to improve the governance of the natural resource sector in resource-rich countries. She is the Principal Investigator of a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC)-funded research project on the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). In collaboration with academics based in Canada, Nigeria, and Ghana, the project explores why the implementation of EITI in Ghana and Nigeria has not led to developmental benefits for local mining communities.

In addition, Dr. Dashwood has been recognized by the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance Award for Excellence in Teaching many times (2012, 2016, and 2020).
