Laurel Sabur is the Associate Director of Strategic Partnerships with RADIUS SFU, a community dedicated to (re)building a regenerative economy transformed by community-led solutions and the redistribution of leadership, centering on those who are historically and persistently marginalized.
In her position, Laurel is responsible for developing partnerships and funding strategies.
Laurel has an extensive background in social finance, community economic development, investment management, corporate social responsibility, sustainable development, and impact investing. Her interdisciplinary career includes mobilizing capital in communities on behalf of impact investors and funders (family offices, foundations, municipality). Most recently, she worked with one of Canada’s wholesalers for the social finance fund, sourcing and conducting due diligence on private equity and debt investment opportunities and initiating a community investment strategy.
Laurel has supported or led investment management, strategic planning, and impact assessment and analysis projects. Some of her career experience includes monitoring liquidity risk and cash management for a $100 billion pension fund manager and the process improvement for a $50 Million community development grant program for the Edmonton municipal government. Laurel has also supported initiatives in Jamaica, Canada, Ghana, and Kenya.
She is a board member of BCW In Action, a registered bilingual charity committed to making a difference in the lives of Black Canadian communities, and a member of the Leadership Council Member for RESOLVE, a natural resource mediation and conflict resolution NGO.
Laurel holds a Masters in Financial Mathematics from the University Of Western Ontario, Canada, a Bachelors degree in Actuarial Science from the University of West Indies, and a Certificate in Community Economic Development from Simon Fraser University. She is an enthusiastic speaker, avid traveler, and a certified meditation teacher.
